Working Trials
is open to any breed (crossbreeds included) and any gender provided the dog is over
18 months old and is registered on the Activity Register
with the Kennel Club. It
is nationwide with Trials being held the length and breadth of the country
(including Scotland, Wales and Ireland).
Trials are run as either
Open Trials or
Championship Trials. The basic rule is that to compete at a Championship Trial
the dog must have qualified at the equivalent Open Trial. The exercises are
varied and to achieve the top levels great dedication must be shown.
The exercises are split
into four sections detailed below. A dog must achieve a qualifying mark of 80%
in each section to achieve qualification in the stake.
The stakes graduate from
CD (Companion Dog), UD (Utility Dog), WD (Working Dog), TD (Tracking Dog) and PD
(Patrol Dog)
The top two stakes are
both 'Ticket' stakes, meaning that the winner of one earns a 'Ticket', entitling
that dog the opportunity of competing at the Kennel Club Championships that
year. A dog who wins 2 Tickets is awarded the title Working Trials Champion below are various documents relating to working trials please scroll through or use the fullscreen mode
